Top 5 Ways That Guinea Pigs Show Affection
Guinea pigs are usually very timid and hence may take time to let you pet them. However, with time they warm up to you. Below are the top five signs that your guinea pig loves you.
They feed from your hand
If you hold a tasty treat in your hand and the guinea runs straight up to you and scrunches the food from your fingers, then you have built trust with your guinea pig. However, if it flees, try leaving a little trail of treats to lure it until it reaches your hand.
They don't bite you
Biting is a self-defense mechanism for guinea pigs against an aggressor. If your guinea pig does not bite you, this is a sign that it trusts you. Instead, they playfully nibble your hands or clothes as a sign of affection.
They do not run away from you
Naturally, guinea pigs run and hide from potential predators. This is their survival instinct. Therefore, if your guinea pig is not afraid of you, it will tend to follow you around or run towards you whenever you approach, call them out, or when they hear your voice.
They communicate with you
Guinea pigs often communicate their feelings once they are more comfortable around you. For example, if your guinea pig loves you, it may make squealing and purring sounds to show that they are excited to be around you.
They sleep beside you
Once your guinea pig is relaxed and calm in your presence, it might climb onto your lap or lie beside you.
