How to Best Bond With Your Horse Through Play
Discover exciting ways to play with your horse. It's a great way to not only challenge, but forge a truly unique connection with your horse while getting it to relax and unwind.
Incorporate Toys
Introduce your horse to a toy such as a ball, by holding it and touching him with it. To keep your horse entertained, you can then throw the ball on the ground nearby and roll it between his legs to see if he is interested and calm enough. Once your horse is comfortable around the ball, teach him to kick it back and forth and even chase after it.
Platform Game
Place an elevated surface such as a platform and have your horse step up onto it while putting a hoof up and holding it there.
Create Obstacles for Your Horse to Navigate
Place poles, tires, barrels, and orange cones along the playing field to set up an obstacle course for your horse to go through. Carefully guide him so he does not trip.
Pied Piper Leadership Game
Out on the lunging area, have your horse on a loose lead rope, step away from him, and ask him to come to you. Once your horse has understood and starts moving towards you, you can let go of the rope, start moving in patterns and watch him follow your lead. This game helps the horse trust you as the leader and respond positively to your instructions while out riding.
