No Rain on Your Pup's Parade
You love your dog, but you don't love that wet dog smell. Fortunately, there's plenty of activities to do with your dog when the weather isn't cooperating for fun in the sun. No matter what your pup's agility or skill level, you can set up some fun exercises and games to keep them occupied while it rains cats (and dogs!). Here are a few ideas that you can save for a rainy day.
Let's Get Physical
They might not be taking home the first prize at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, but your pup isn't too old to learn some new tricks. Use your furniture and other household items to build an obstacle course for your dog.
- Create a zigzag challenge by strategically placing around a few items like boxes or shoes that your dog can navigate between.
- Place two chair across from each other and drape a blanket over top to create a tunnel for your dog to run through.
- Prop up a hula hoop or fashion a circle out of some cardboard cutouts for your dog to jump through.
Pop The Bubbly
If you can't play catch outside with a ball, bring the game inside with some bubbles! Playing with bubbles stimulates your dog's mind and taps into their primal instinct to hunt and catch prey, even if it's soapy prey. This activity also encourages dogs to move their bodies and stay active to the best of their ability. It's best to use dog-friendly bubble solution that you can pick up online or at a pet store. Stay stationary and have your pup jump up to get those bubbles, or run throughout the house with a trail of bubbles and your happy dog chasing behind you.
