The Paw-some Benefits of a Socialized Cat
You probably give little thought to socializing your cat, but the truth of the matter is that it's important that cats are socialized. Cats get a bad rap as being man, aloof, and uncaring. And though it's in a cat's nature to become as outgoing and friendly as a dog, a cat that is well socialized can enjoy interacting with other cats and dogs as well as people and visitors to your home. There are a number of benefits to socialization of your cat.
Socialized Cats Are Confident Cats
One of the biggest benefits of socializing your cat is that it helps to build your cat's confidence. A cat that is socialized and socialized well has the ability to adapt to different surroundings and environments including different activities, strange animals and pets, and even new people that might come into your life. It is less stressful for a cat that is socialized to go to the vet, become accustomed to playing with toys they have not played with before, and even feel less stress when loud noises and other distractions might otherwise cause your cat some form of stress. Whereas a non-socialized cat may attempt to hide when a visitor comes, a socialized cat approaches the visitor and interacts with the visitor.
Socialized Cats and Mental/Physical Development
Socialized cats have a greater and enhanced ability to develop and reach milestones more efficiently and proficiently than non-socialized cats. For example a well socialized kitten will be able to develop healthy and normal sleeping habits, locate food easily, and learn to be well behaved around other animals. Cats learn by observation, so when they are well socialized, they’re more able to learn predatory behaviors and other important life skills from their mother, generally by playing with their littermates.
